Beth Brookes
Beth Brookes is the director of the largest 21st Century Community Learning Center program within Vermont, ENCORE After School Programs.  ENCORE serves 11 schools in the North Country Supervisory Union and Beth has been instrumental in leading these schools towards a common vision for afterschool.  The strong organizational and administrative skills Beth brings are clearly demonstrated through her success in leading an organization geographically spread across 64 miles.  Beth is currently working towards completion of a M.B.A. Beth is coaching Building Programming and Administrative Skills (New Directors’ Strand) in 2010-2011.

ISS-AP L.F.S.Lynne Feal-Staub, MSW
Lynne Feal-Staub is the former director of Wings Community Programs, a 21st CCLC project in southern Vermont, and led the growth of Wings from a one-school program operating on an annual budget of approximately $100,000 to a supervisory-union wide project serving seven schools with an annual operating cost of over $400,000.  Lynne has secured $1.9 million dollars in grant funds and has developed comprehensive systems for tracking multiple funding sources.  Lynne has presented numerous workshops and trainings around afterschool sustainability throughout the state.  Lynne holds a MSW from the University of Wisconsin. Lynne is coaching Raising Local Funding Through Town and School Budgets and Fund Raising Campaigns in 2010-2011.

Sue Kamp, MS
Sue is the current coordinator of the Vermont School Age Care Network (VSACN) and the former director of the Vermont Children’s Trust Foundation.  In both of these roles Sue has worked with afterschool programs across the state by providing professional development opportunities, mentoring of directors, and providing technical assistance to programs, all with the goal of supporting primary prevention programs for children and families.  Sue’s work on various afterschool related committees has provided her a deep understanding of afterschool systems in Vermont and her current role as Chair Elect of the Coalition for Juvenile Justice in Washington, DC provides her a national lens for issues related to juvenile justice.  Sue holds an MS in Child Development and Family Studies from Purdue University. Sue is coaching Building and Guiding an Effective Advisory Board in 2010-2011.

Holly Morehouse, PhD, MA
Prior to becoming director of the Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence, Holly Morehouse was the state coordinator for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers at the Vermont Department of Education.  Holly has over 15 years’ experience in project management, community-based decision making, communication and collaboration processes, and leadership. She has supported decision-making processes in communities throughout the United States and in South America and Africa. Her research and publications include work on afterschool programs and school culture change, shared vision models for community-based decision making, and the spatial mapping of indicators for risk and vulnerability.  Holly earned her Ph.D. from Clark University and holds a M.A. in Systems Analysis and Economics for Public Decision Making from Johns Hopkins University. With support from the David P. Weikart Center, Holly is coaching the Pilot Project: Youth Program Quality Intervention (YPQI) in 2010-2011.

Carmel Quinn
Carmel Quinn is the Director of Advocacy for the Girls Scouts of the Green and White Mountains.  Carmel has worked in program development and implementation for twenty-plus years, both in Girl Scouts and in other non-profit organizations such as: Head Start, Lund Family Center, and Vermont Public Television.  Within all of these roles, Carmel has continually encouraged youth to access the power they have within through collaboration.  In her current position, Carmel works with the legislature and other youth serving organizations in both Vermont and New Hampshire to ensure that “how will this impact girls” is part of the discussion prior to decisions being made.  Carmel holds a BA in Education from the University of Connecticut. Carmel is coaching Enhancing Deep Youth Engagement within Program Design in 2010-2011.

ISS-AP B.R.Barb Russ, MEd, VT Principal License
Barb Russ is currently the director of the 21st Century Community Learning Center in Winooski. Barb has 30 years experience working within education and much of that work has focused on literacy. Specifically, Barb is the former director of UVM America Reads and Counts, has taught undergraduate and graduate level literacy courses at the University of Vermont, and presented numerous workshops around literacy and best practices in education throughout Vermont and nationally. Additionally Barb has worked as a classroom teacher, Language Arts Coordinator, and principal within various public schools in Vermont. Barb Russ also brings proven success in creating an effective tutoring program to Winooski’s 21st CCLC program. Barb has been awarded funding through the Vermont Department of Education for the JFK Afterschool Tutoring Program she developed and efforts are currently taking place to replicate the model in several 21st CCLC programs across the state. Barb holds a M.Ed. from the University of Vermont in Curriculum and Instruction, and her B.S. focused specifically on elementary education/reading and language arts. Barb is coaching Developing a School-Linked Tutoring Program in 2010-2011.

Jen Stanchfield, MS
Jen Stanchfield owns and operates Experiential Tools, a Vermont-based company dedicated to the art of experiential group facilitation and teaching.  In her 20 years as an experiential educator Jen has worked as a clinician in treatment programs for children and adolescents, a teacher, a professional trainer and as a challenge course facilitator. Through these diverse experiences with groups of all ages she has developed a repertoire of practical activities, tools, and teaching strategies that she enthusiastically shares with other educators and group facilitators in her professional development  programs,  team-building workshops, training sessions, and publications.  Jen is the author of A Teachable Moment and Tips and Tools: The Art of Experiential Group Facilitation and earned her MS in Experiential Education from Minnesota State University, Mankato. Jen is coaching Creating a Positive Learning Community to Engage and Motivate Students in 2010-2011.

John Dilts, MEd, VT Principal License
John Dilts has spent his entire career in education with nearly ten years teaching experience, nine years as a Special Education Administrator, and 19 years experience as an elementary school principal.  For the past 11 years John has been actively involved in creating and supporting afterschool programs within the state serving on the advisory boards of SOAR After-School, the Tapestry Program, and the Boys and Girls Club of Brandon.  John has presented both nationally and abroad around using assessment to improve learning and brings clear expertise around linking afterschool to the school-day.  John holds a M.Ed. in Special Education.

David Gibson, EdD, MEd
David Gibson is Executive Director of the Global Challenge Award and Research Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the University of Vermont.  His research and publications includes work on modeling of educational systems and the use of technology to personalize education.  David holds an Ed.D. in Leadership and Policy Studies and a M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision.  Susan Grasso in an environmental engineer currently working as the Director of STEM Curriculum Development with the Global Challenge Award.  Kendra Sowers is the Director of Student Advising for the GCA and brings over 15 years experience as an educator, coach, technical writer, trainer and project manager.

Anne Gleason, MA
Anne Gleason is the School Age Programs Coordinator for the Mary Johnson Children’s Center in Middlebury, Vermont.  In this role, Anne directly oversees six afterschool programs, four summer camps, and a youth leadership program.  Anne has taught various college-level courses around afterschool and is a leader within the state around school age care.  Anne’s passion for school age care can be seen both through the work she has done over the past twenty years and in the fact that both her B.A. and M.A. were uniquely constructed around School Age Care.

Rich Tulikangas, MEd
Rich Tulikangas is the Director of Linking Learning to Life (LLL), a non-profit organization dedicated to preparing youth for life beyond high school.  Rich has over 30 years experience guiding development in school-to-career initiatives including work at the University of Vermont as the School-To-Work Professional Development Coordinator and as an Educational Consultant with the Vermont Department of Education.  In addition to his experience in career preparation, Rich has extensive knowledge in fundraising and grant writing and co-authored a book on this topic.  Rich holds a M.Ed. from the University of Vermont.

Dale West
Dale West has a combined background in both education and business.  Dale has worked as a classroom teacher, home-based family counselor and therapeutic case manager. As Program Coordinator for Northeastern Family Institute, Dale developed therapeutic programs and support services for families providing therapeutic foster care and for five years he served as the Director of After School Programs for the Springfield School District.  In business, Dale has overseen advertising sales and marketing and is currently a Fund Raising Sales Consultant for Yankee Candle.  Dale holds a B.S. in Elementary Education.
