Readsboro (2008-09) Balancing ActAfterschool Alliance Ambassador
The Afterschool Alliance’s Afterschool Ambassador Emeritus for Vermont connects with the Center through a commitment of the resources of the Alliance, a key advocacy organization for the afterschool field. The Ambassador Emeritus ensures that the Alliance’s initiatives, including Lights On Afterschool, Afterschool for All, The Afterschool Challenge, legislative updates, and advocacy opportunities, are communicated to all Stakeholders and Champions in the Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence. The Ambassodor Emeritus also plays a lead role in organizing statewide advocacy initiatives in collaboration with the Center, such as legislative events.

Burlington After School
Burlington After School offers high-quality enrichment and recreation opportunities alongside exceptional academic support every day that school is in session. Burlington After School works with city departments and community-based organizations to meet the needs of youth at Burlington’s nine public schools. During the past two years the program has increased its partnership with the Burlington’s Parks and Recreation Department and the Child Development Division to align our enrichment and academic support programs with the care needs of Burlington families and bridge the often difficult gap between childcare and education based afterschool programs. As Vermont’s largest community and one of its most diverse, the organization is open to sharing its  successes and challenges with afterschool programs throughout the state through the Center.

Champlain Valley Educator Development Center- Educational Services Agency (CVEDC)
Vermont has established six Educational Services Agencies (ESA’s) to provide professional development and support to educators in each region of the state. The purpose of the ESA’s is to increase student learning and improve schools by providing high-quality professional development. The goals of the ESA are to: improve teacher and paraprofessional content knowledge and pedagogy; increase teacher leadership; improve leadership of principals and superintendents; and improve school culture and organizational effectiveness. The ESA’s are organized to focus on student learning and to partner with the Department of Education and existing consortia and collaboratives in their region and to involve institutions of higher education and service providers. The Champlain Valley Educator Development Center (CVEDC) is the ESA for Northwestern Vermont (Chittenden, Franklin, and Grand Isle Counties).

Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains
Serving 16,000 girls throughout New Hampshire and Vermont, Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains (GSGWM) is one of 109 councils chartered by GirlScouts of the USA, the world’s leading organization dedicated solely to girls, where, in an accepting and nurturing environment, girls build character and skills for success. In partnership with caring adults, girls develop qualities to serve them all their lives: strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their potential and self-worth. Through hundreds of programs offered each year, girls develop their leadership potential through activities that enable them to discover their values, skills and the world; connect with others in a multicultural environment; and take action to make a difference in the world.

Linking Learning to Life
Linking Learning to Life (LLL) is a nonprofit community-based organization based in Burlington, Vermont.  Linking Learning to Life programs and services include mentoring, community-based learning, service learning, job shadowing, internships, career exploration, supported employment for youth with disabilities, job placement with local businesses and youth leadership development. LLL also operates a Career Direction Center at Burlington High School and provides at-risk high school students the opportunity to experience college and earn dual enrollment credit. LLL has grown from an initial Burlington initiative to an organization that increasingly engages youth statewide. Many of the program activities take place in afterschool hours. LLL offers a number of program models that can be easily replicated in other schools and communities and they offer to provide tools, curricula, professional development and technical assistance to expand afterschool programming throughout the state.

Parent Information and Resource Center of Vermont
The Parent Information and Resource Center of Vermont (PIRC – Vermont) is operated as a project of the Vermont Family Network and is part of a national network of federally-funded PIRCs. Our mission is to provide support, information, and training to parents and educators across Vermont in order to help children of all ages succeed in school. PIRC – Vermont can help engage all families in being active partners in their child’s education. Vermont Family Network serves families statewide around issues related to education, health, and advocacy.

The Global Challenge Award
The Global Challenge Award (GCA) program is a worldwide online “STEM learning” (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) experience aimed at high school students, which engages youth for up to eight months. Over 4,500 students from 100 countries participate each year. Recently awarded a MacArthur Foundation Digital Media and Learning award, GCA works with VCAE to bring inexpensive, scalable STEM learning activities to every middle and high school afterschool program in Vermont.

Vermont Agency of Human Services, Child Development Division
The Child Development Division (CDD) offers a number of on-going resources for afterschool programs, especially for those considering state child care licensure for access to the child care financial assistance program. CDD provides technical assistance to communities for the start-up of new or expanding afterschool programs, manages afterschool program grants, and leads systems work for workforce development. Vermont afterschool programs have benefited from, and can continue to access, these resources for building program sustainability and educating and retaining afterschool staff.

Vermont Department of Education
The Vermont Department of Education conducts grant competitions for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) program. Vermont’s 21st CCLC program seeks to enhance students’ academic achievement and to foster lifelong interests in the arts, recreation and other areas through high-quality afterschool learning opportunities.

Vermont School Age Care Network
The Vermont School Age Care Network (VSACN) is a membership organization that provides professional development and other supports to afterschool providers throughout the state of Vermont. Within this role, VSACN partners with the Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence to advance the field through professional development, mentoring, and technical assistance to afterschool providers and programs. The VSACN coordinator also serves as a key partner in the new Center’s activities, and we continue our partnership on the annual statewide afterschool conference. VSACN is the Vermont state affiliate of the National Afterschool Association.

Vermont State Legislator- Mike Mrowicki
State Representative Mike Mrowicki wears two important hats for the Center. He sits on the House Human Services Committee and he serves as the director for Putney Family Services and the OASIS afterschool program. In October 2008, Mike was the keynote speaker for the Vermont Afterschool Conference. During his talk, he urged the over 300 attendees to join together and speak with one voice for afterschool. Mike is an important spokesperson for the Center and he continues to play a crucial role in fostering conversations with other legislators in support of providing high-quality afterschool programs for all of Vermont’s children and youth.

Vermont Student Assistance Corporation
The Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC) is a public non-profit that works to help Vermonters who want to got to college or on to other training after high school. VSAC provides grants, loans, scholarships, career and education planning, and general information about continuing education after high school.

Voices for Vermont’s Children
The mission of the Voices for Vermont’s Children is to promote public policy that enhances the lives of children and youth in Vermont. Voices addresses the full spectrum of child, youth and family issues – from child care and access to health care coverage for children and youth to juvenile justice and child welfare. Voices supports the Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence particularly on public policy and advocacy issues.

Winooski School District
Winooski School District is a preK-12 district located in Chittenden County. Winooski is the geographically smallest district in the state and also has one of the highest rates of diversity in Vermont. Winooski’s 21st Century Community Learning Center (21C) Afterschool Program Director, Barb Russ, is currently serving on the Partner Advisory Council for the Center as a 21C Program Director representative.
