Guidelines

All submissions for Lights! Camera! Learning! must include a video vignette of students engaged in an innovative learning experience during afterschool hours. Afterschool refers to programs that take place outside the school day. Community-based programs, school-based programs, youth organizations, and stand-alone clubs and activities are eligible to submit videos. The following guidelines should be utilized for all video submissions:

  • Videos should be at least two minutes, and no longer than five minutes. Three to four minute video submissions are encouraged.
  • Videos submitted within the Elementary-Aged and Middle/ High School Programs categories should focus on one particular program within an afterschool program, or a series of related programs. Videos in these categories can come from school-year or summer programming.
  • Videos submitted within the Comprehensive Afterschool Programs category should provide an overview of the entire program. Videos in this category can focus on school-year programs, summer programs, or both.
  • Videos should not include any copyrighted materials, including music.  For more information on making sure your video does not infringe someone else’s copyright, see http://www.youtube.com/t/howto_copyright.
  • A Permission to Use Photograph/ Video form for all students that appear within the video must accompany each proposal.  Please use the form provided and send all permission forms to the Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence at the address listed on the release form.
  • Strong videos typically include narratives from students and key individuals (e.g. program leader, principal, parent, etc.) around the value of the program. Limit narrative descriptions to two to three and limit each narratives to 30 seconds. Narratives are strongly suggested for videos submitted within the Comprehensive Afterschool Programs category.
