OUR MISSION: Vermont Afterschool is dedicated to strengthening programs, building partnerships, and transforming communities so that all Vermont youth are active, engaged, connected, and heard.

WHY WE DO IT: We believe that young people make a better Vermont and all children and youth in Vermont have the right to opportunities that will help them grow into happy and healthy adults.

OUR HISTORY: Vermont Afterschool is the lead organization in Vermont for issues concerning afterschool programs, out-of-school time, summer learning, and expanded learning opportunities. The organization grew out of a multi-year project called the Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence that started under the supervision of the Champlain Valley Educator Development Center (“CVEDC”) in Colchester, Vermont, 2009-2013. In 2013, Vermont Afterschool became its own nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) status and board of directors.

Vermont Afterschool is a recognized organization and statewide afterschool network at the national level as well. As the Mott-funded statewide afterschool network for Vermont, Vermont Afterschool is part of a nationwide coalition with representation from all 50 states. Vermont Afterschool is also Vermont’s state-affiliate for the National AfterSchool Association (NAA) further expanding our connections and stakeholder base.
