Afterschool programs spark interest in learning so youth attend school more often, get better grades, and improve their behavior in class. They are safe spaces for youth to connect, to express themselves, and to build healthy relationships with caring staff. And it’s the staff—the thousands of dedicated afterschool professionals who work tirelessly every single day to care for the state’s youth—who are the heart of afterschool in Vermont.
Each year, Vermont Afterschool honors their work and highlights the importance of high-quality afterschool care for Vermont’s children, families, and communities through the presentation of two awards: the Afterschool Professional of the Year Award and the Afterschool Rising Star Award.
We are currently seeking nominations for exceptional afterschool professionals whose work exemplifies afterschool best practices. Nominations are due Friday, July 10. Awards will be announced at Vermont Afterschool’s Annual Conference and the winners will receive a cash prize, a plaque, and recognition for all that they do for Vermont’s children and families.
