Afterschool programs spark interest in learning so youth attend school more often, get better grades, and improve their behavior in class. They are safe spaces for youth to connect, to express themselves, and to build healthy relationships with caring staff. And it’s the staff—the thousands of dedicated afterschool professionals who work tirelessly every single day to care for the state’s youth—who are the heart of afterschool in Vermont.

The Afterschool Rising Star of the Year Award was created to honor young afterschool staff, 21 and under, whose work exemplifies afterschool best practices. These young employees are crucial for so many afterschool programs in Vermont who rely on them to help provide high-quality programming. Just as young people make Vermont better, these young employees make afterschool better every single day.

For her exceptional maturity, unparalleled dedication to inclusion, and profound ability to connect with and support children and families, we are thrilled and honored to give the 2025 Vermont Afterschool Rising Star of the Year award to:

To honor their work and highlight the importance of high-quality afterschool care for Vermont’s children, families, and communities, Vermont Afterschool has established two annual awards—the Afterschool Professional of the Year Award and the Afterschool Rising Star Awardto be given to afterschool professionals whose work exemplifies afterschool best practices

Eligible nominees for the Afterschool Professional of Year Award must:

  • Work directly with school-age children in a public or private, school- or community-based afterschool program;
  • Work a minimum of ten hours each week at an afterschool program; and
  • Have been an afterschool professional for three or more years

Eligible nominees for the Afterschool Rising Star Award must:

  • Be 21 years of age and under;
  • Work directly with school-age children in a public or private, school- or community-based afterschool program;
  • Work a minimum of ten hours each week at an afterschool program; and
  • Have worked in an afterschool program for a minimum of one year.

The nomination period for the 2025 awards is closed. Awards will be announced at Vermont Afterschool’s Annual Conference and the winners will receive a cash prize, a plaque, and recognition for all that they do for Vermont’s children and families.
