VTA Members Only Training – The Seven Essential Life Skills
February 15 @ 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm
This 2-hour course (for Vermont Afterschool Members only) is an introduction to the seven essential life skills every child needs. We will cover inspiring brain development research, spend time examining our own executive functioning skills, and brainstorm the kinds of fun games and activities that spark these skills in children. All the course materials and resources follow top research in the science of childhood brain development from the past decade as outlined by Ellen Galinsky in Mind in the Making.
- Participants will be able to define executive functions and name the skills involved and how these link to academic success.
- Participants will build an understanding of why executive functioning and these 7 skills are important in adult lives, and how to promote them in ourselves and children and youth we serve.
- Participants will examine child development research in order to create strategic plans for teaching executive function-based skills in children
