Training (2 Day)- Culturally Responsive Program Structure and Staff Practices for Afterschool

August 5, 2024 @ 5:00 pm 7:00 pm

This workshop will expand upon the influences of cultural humility, institutionalized racism, and marginalization, and how they impact student sense of belonging in your program. Using the eight practices of culturally responsive program structure and staffing practices, participants will develop a greater understanding of how to create programs that better connect with students who have non-dominant identities.

This is a 2-part workshop series. Part 1 will be August 5 (5:00 PM-7:00 PM). In part 2 of this workshop series on August 12 (5:00 PM-7:00 PM), participants will dive deeper into the 5 key components of culturally responsive afterschool activities: caring relationships, student voice, critical consciousness, parent involvement, and sense of belonging.

Objectives:

  • Recognize the differences between cultural humility and cultural competence, and why humility is a more sustainable and inclusive mindset.
  • Identify the 8 Staff Practices of Culturally Responsive Program Structure and reflect on their connection to your programming.
  • Breakdown the 5 Key Components of Culturally Responsive Afterschool Activities and what they mean/look like in practice.
