On behalf of Vermont Afterschool’s Board of Directors, it’s my distinct pleasure to announce that Nicole Miller has been hired as the organization’s next executive director.
Nicole’s background as a site coordinator, ten years as a program director of a rural afterschool program, and most recently as VTA’s assistant director and interim director, has provided her with a foundational knowledge of the challenges that afterschool, summer, and third space programs and their staff face. This knowledge, combined with her deep commitment to ensuring equal access to third space programming for all Vermont youth as well as her connections to the afterschool community both in Vermont and nationally, has instilled in the Board a confidence that she is prepared to advance VTA’s mission and vision for universal afterschool and summer.
The hiring committee for this position was composed of three members of VTA’s board and two staff members, who oversaw a two-round search process culminating in a final round of candidate interviews and a presentation for both staff and board.
The board is working with Nicole to ensure a smooth transition so that she can effectively lead VTA from the position of strength inherited from former Executive Director Holly Morehouse.
We’re looking forward to continuing this important work alongside our valued partners throughout the state and across the US and to sharing exciting updates in the coming months about Vermont’s State Youth Council, VTA’s annual conference, a new expanding access grant, professional development opportunities, a new Vermont Youth Project, and more.
